The hinged box, also known as a 'clamshell', is a single-piece flap box. A common application is a gift card box. In this case, an inlay is fitted inside the box so that the card stands neatly upright when opened.

The hinged box is also widely used as a shipping box, for example to send tubes that lie neatly secured in an inlay. Especially if the box is somewhat smaller, this is a budget-friendly solution with a luxurious appearance.
